On A Personal Note
I was born and raised in Missoula, Montana and have a deep sense of belonging and respect for the community there. Growing up in a city that values community, education, the arts, and ecological health was truly a blessing. Life in Montana has a rhythm all its own; I spent my summers on the river socializing with friends and exploring the Rocky Mountain wilderness by horseback, the falls with family bucking wood and celebrating birthdays, winters were spent reading, shoveling snow, crafting and cooking, and the spring was always a time for growth and community engagement. This unique upbringing gave me a strong sense of self, a passion for environmentalism, a dedication to making a positive impact on the world, and a drive for community engagement.
I moved to California in July of 2014 to teach in a high-needs middle school in Seaside (just outside of Monterey), which was an incredibly rewarding and challenging experience. Since then I have worked and lived in the bay in a variety of positions for a number of different organizations and have loved the life I have built here. I have developed a large network of friends, helped create a music festival, been the mayor of a 125-person Burning Man theme camp ($55k budget), co-lead a quarterly dance celebration for 500 people ($16k budget), and regularly baked lattice apple pies for my neighbors (priceless). I have grown immensely both personally and professionally, and have found joy and success in both management and educational roles while working and living in The Bay for the last 6 years.
I take pride in being creative and thoughtful throughout all aspects of my life, and consider myself a highly empathetic, radically self-reliant, enthusiastic member of my community. I am comfortable with leadership, honest about my strengths and weaknesses, and am never shy when it comes to asking for help. I strive to be "a good human" and want to leave the world (and the moment I'm in) better than I found it. I truly believe that loving-kindness, empathy, patience, and ahimsa are integral to fostering open communication and meaningful connections. When I'm not working you can find me outside with my dog, Nanuk, leading events or making art with friends, and dancing to my favorite music. I believe that mental and physical health go hand-in-hand and I strive to maintain a healthful lifestyle via balanced nutrition, running, yoga, reading, and creative self-expression.
